Find our carefully selected disease-resistant vegetable plants here. Many tomatoes come with different levels of disease resistance. Some problems can be avoided, for example blossom-end rot is common and usually a result of erratic watering, but airborne diseases such as blight are harder to deal with. Tomatoes are one of the most rewarding crops to grow but it can be disheartening when your well-tended plants are hit by disease and your fruits lost. However, their growth habit usually needs more room than bush varieties. With the side shoots removed, these varieties will continue fruiting until the first frosts. Cordon/Indeterminate varieties - These vine varieties need to be supported by a cane and are grown as a single stemmed cordon.Great when space is limited but they have a shorter fruiting period. Bush/Determinate varieties - These grow to about 2 to 3ft high and then put all their effort into ripening the fruit. What is the difference between cordon (vine) and bush tomatoes? Beefsteak tomatoes - The big daddies of the tomato world! Perfect for grilling, stuffing or simply slicing for sandwiches.Plum tomatoes - Oval shaped, firm fleshed, with few seeds and so perfect for sauces and soups.Classic, juicy tomatoes perfect for snacks, salads and cooking. Standard round tomatoes - About 5cm in diameter, these are what most people picture as a “normal” tomato.Suitable for roasting, bottling or simply eating fresh from the plant whilst working in the garden. Cherry tomatoes - Small and sweet, a brilliant bite size snack for kids and the ideal addition to salad leaves. When choosing which tomatoes to grow, consider the types you most like to eat, their growing habit and level of hardiness and resistance to disease.

This allows the direct creation of multivolume compressed tar archives. Lzip can also split the compressed output in volumes of a given size, even when reading from standard input. Lzip can produce multimember files and safely recover, with lziprecover, the undamaged members in case of file damage. Integrity testing of concatenated compressed files is also supported. The result is the concatenation of the corresponding uncompressed files. Lzip will correctly decompress a file which is the concatenation of two or more compressed files. In this case, lzip will decline to write compressed output to a terminal, as this would be entirely incomprehensible and therefore pointless. If no file names are specified, lzip compresses (or decompresses) from standard input to standard output. Lzip is able to read from some types of non regular files if the "-stdout" option is specified. Each compressed file has the same modification date, permissions, and, when possible, ownership as the corresponding original, so that these properties can be correctly restored at decompression time. Lzip replaces every file given in the command line with a compressed version of itself, with the name "original_name.lz". If the cause of file corruption is damaged media, the combination GNU ddrescue + lziprecover is the best option for recovering data from multiple damaged copies. Lziprecover is a data recovery tool for lzip compressed files able to repair slightly damaged files, recover badly damaged files from two or more copies, and extract undamaged members from multi-member files. Software tools that decompress both formats or can convert lzma-alone files to lzip format are listed below, in the Links section. The lzip file format (.lz) is an improved successor of the unsafe and deprecated lzma-alone file format (.lzma). Lzip decompresses almost as fast as gzip and compresses better than bzip2, which makes it well suited for software distribution and data archiving. Lzip is a lossless data compressor based on the LZMA algorithm, with very safe integrity checking and a user interface similar to the one of gzip or bzip2. |
